January Insanity Bracket: Aussie Open Predictions

I’m four for eight on my Australian Open predictions, so let’s just say I shouldn’t make a career out of it. Round three for the bottom half of the men’s and women’s draws beings tonight, so I decided to make a January Insanity bracket and predict all 16 winners. Who do you think will win tonight? Am I on point or totally off?

women's draw

Prediction for biggest blowout: Sharapova almost lost to a qualifier in her last match and she’s ready to bring her A-game in this round.

Prediction for closest match: Hradecka and Goerges both beat seeded players in round one and players with higher rankings than them in round two. They seem to be following a similar pattern.

Prediction for potential upset: Shvedova upset Safarova in the first round and played a great match against Puig two days later. Even though I’m predicting Peng wins tonight, I also wouldn’t be surprised if Shvedova moved on to the round of 16.

men's draw

Prediction for biggest blowout: Just like Sharapova, Nadal is eager to redeem himself tonight after a five-setter with Smyczek.

Prediction for closest match: Tomic and Groth are two young Australians trying to make a name for themselves. Tomic is probably the better player, but I think it could go either way.

Prediction for potential upset: I picked 24th seed Gasquet over 14th seed Anderson. I’m not really sure why, it’s just a gut feeling. I’ll be mad if I’m wrong on this one.
