There is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Maria Sharapova doping scandal, but one thing that is very clear is how Dominika Cibulkova feels about her.
In an interview with a Slovakian publication, which was then translated by various sites around the world, Cibulkova had some very choice words for the Russian tennis star.
“I was surprised that most of the reactions were so diplomatic, because everyone’s opinion is actually totally different. I didn’t make any statement, as I didn’t want to be the only person to openly say what they think about this case. I will only say that I don’t feel sorry at all for Sharapova and I don’t miss her on the tour.”
“She’s a totally unlikeable person. Arrogant, conceited and cold. When I sit beside her in the locker room, she won’t even say hello.”
Though this response is much harsher than any other since Sharapova announced she failed a drug test, it feels as though Sharapova is not receiving much, if any, sympathy from within the tennis community. McEnroe said he found it hard to believe she or her team didn’t know she was taking a banned substance, Jennifer Capriati attacked her on Twitter while Nadal and Murray both said she shouldn’t be given any preferential treatment.
In the weeks following this announcement it also seems as though Sharapova, based on her Instagram (shown below), is finding her sanctuary within Hollywood. However Sharapova may be coping with this setback, it is pretty clear that the tight-knit WTA is not a source of support at the moment.
