After her exciting victory over Sloane Stephens, Coco Vandeweghe backed it up with one of the most dreadful second round appearances to date. About 20 minutes into the match, Coco already found herself down 5-0 to Bethanie Mattek-Sands. And she lost it a little. During the changeover, the world witnessed what has to be the most epic racket smash of the tournament.
While Coco did go on to win the next two games, she could never get any rhythm in the match. Mattek-Sands won the match 6-2 6-1. She plays Serena Williams next.
