Instructor of the Month: Elona P. in Union City, NJ

We at MyTennisLessons are excited to announce Elona P. in Union City, NJ, as our instructor of the month for August. She is doing a fantastic job teaching her students. We were able to find some time between lessons to ask Elona a few questions.

Do you recall your first tennis lessons as a student? If so, describe to us what they were like.

Yes, I actually do recall my first lessons as a student. I can say it was a lot of fun and at the same time a lot of hard work, but I did enjoy it and always tried to do my best on the court.

How has your own experience playing tennis shaped how you teach tennis now?

Tennis is an amazing sport. It teaches you a lot about patience, teaches you to be committed to your goal, and teaches you to never give up. I always tell my students to do their best on the court if they want to improve. It is a difficult sport to learn, but as long as you have a goal and do your best, you can accomplish anything.

You played pro tennis in Russia. What advice do you have for young players hoping to reach the top level?
If you want to be successful, you must have a goal and fight for it. Never give up. It’s a long journey to get to the top and it takes a lot of work and a lot of patience, but if you don’t quit you’ll be rewarded.

Do you have a favorite memory with a student you have taught?

Yes, I do. It was one of my students in Russia. Nobody really believed in her except me and her parents, but she won a tournament and surprised everybody. It made me so proud.

For you, what is the most valuable thing a student can learn about tennis?

Tennis teaches you a lot, but in my opinion, patience and commitment to your goals are the most valuable thing to learn.
