About Ben
I am a former junior and collegiate competitor (South Carolina junior Davis Cup and named “Outstanding College Athlete of America”), and retired teaching Pro (USPTA), returning to the game out of love and fascination with the new modern game in all its power and technology. After graduating from Wake Forest University, I competed on the ATP Pro Satellite Tour in my early/mid 20’s before launching and operating my own tennis academy on Hilton Head Island for a half decade For the past decade, I have served as a start up CEO Biz Coach and now desire to add tennis coaching back into my repetoir of coaching services to stay active and give back what I have learned about the game in my career as player, teacher, coach, academy operator, and Court Sport brand owner. I am very fit and updated to the new trends in tennis, both playing and equipment. I consider my self a life long “student of the game.” I trained and mentored under the late Jim Leighton, retired WFU Coach (NCAA Coaches Hall of Fame and International Tennis Hall of Fame), one of the winningest coaches of all time as well as a great mentor and role model.

Teaching Experience: 15 years

Teaching Style
My teaching style developed initially in my late teens, giving clinics with then world no. 1 Stan Smith at Hilton Head. After studying under my college coach, I developed a trained eye with a speciality in technique and strategic analysis to observe the player and adapt to their physical, emotional, and mental capability and desires regardless of level of play. I find working with beginners as exciting as teaching top league and tournament players. I look forward to bringing my historical perspective on the game and classical view in the Budge, Laver and Federa style! Tennis is the greatest lifetime, family-oriented game with global connectivity. In my senior years, I desire to see it introduced to more player prospects who typically don’t have access to tennis instruction and play, particularly the disadvantaged. I am well connected in the industry including to many long time pros, USTA officials, and player agents including Ray Benton — USTA Board Member, founder of Pro Serve and former agent to Michael Jordan— as well as Arthur Ashe and Jimmy Connors.

Hobbies
Golf, hiking, spin biking and daily workouts, yoga, fly fishing, sailing, outdoor concerts, family picnics and time with my two lovely daughters
