About Donald
I was a college swimmer and chose tennis as a sport while in graduate school. I became good enough to become a ranked player, and to become a tennis instructor. I did the PTR Tennis University to improve my teaching skills. I have been teaching since 1978, in a concession with the City of New York, located in lower Manhattan. I taught during the winter in the Bronx, running the adult program, under a bubble next to Yankee Stadium. I took up skiing when I stopped playing tournaments, and became a pretty good snowboarder. I am a divemaster when the mood strikes me.

Teaching Experience: 35 years

Teaching Style
I don’t like to be restricted by time. Students learn loop backswings on a groundstroke, so that the racket never stands still to stop momentum, and can be adjusted to meet the needs of the moment. Lessons are broken into two parts, the first being learning correct stroke production, the second taking what was learned on the road in competitive drills. A student learns a power game, meaning whacking the ball to the best of his or her ability, and how to survive with underspin when that is necessary. Players learn how to move forward on a soft or short ball to end the point with a volley or overhead. Students learn tennis is a mental game, in setting up the ball, and taking advantage of an opponent. In line with that is, the idea that players don’t defeat an opponent, (unless they’re too weak to defend themselves), but rather let them self destruct through faulty play. We don’t win, the other player lost, given some help.So lessons are about strokes, so they won’t fail you, and
having fun while trying to win.

Hobbies
Read sci fi for fun, have a fantastic music collection, to soothe the spirit.
