About Jay
Hi, my name is Jay. I’m originally from NY, I’ve lived in California for about 13 years. My first job in Los Angeles was as the head pro at I-Tennis, a small and exclusive club, where we worked with touring pros, ranked seniors and nationally ranked juniors. In the past 11 years, I have cultivated and coached my own private clientele and ran weekly group workouts, clinics and seasonal camps. I have coached USTA and scholastic teams and designed full training regimens for players. I also have experience creating and directing tennis programs for various cities. I was an assistant coach at a Division I university and have guided many players – juniors and adults – to rankings and college teams.Ive been fortunate to have worked with some of the great names in tennis, from Dick Gould (former Director of Tennis at Stanford University to Pete Fischer (Pete Sampras’s first coach). As a player, I was a ranked junior, scholarship player at a Division I university and played professional tour
naments.
Teaching Experience: 20 years
Teaching Style
I may be one of the very few coaches who actually taught himself how to play. I had only a handful of private lessons growing up – so to advance as far as I did as a player it took a great deal of trial and error, a lot of hard work and countless hours on the court. This experience has enabled me to be very much in tune with my clients. It has better helped me understand what they are feeling and why things aren’t working. I have worked with people of all ages and levels at every aspect of the game, from stroke mechanics to singles and doubles strategy to off-court training. Everybody learns and sees the game differently – so it’s important to be able to adapt your teaching style to each individual person.
