About Lucious
Hi, my name is Lucious. I am a passionate certified USTA/PTR teaching professional. I have been playing tennis for 24 years and teaching the game for 15 years. I was a member of a USTA team that made Nationals standing in the year 2004-2005. I am certified to teach youths (10 and Under), high performance teens, young/middle/senior adults. I am a college grad with a BA and university graduate with a MA in communications. I worked as an educator for the NYC Department of Education for 38 years. I attend annual professional development classes in order to keep myself updated with the latest changes and or additions to the game of tennis in today’s world. I am dependable, reliable, punctual, and a strong believer in the concepts of purpose and structure. I have been teaching for the last 10 years at the Highland Park Tennis Association located in Brooklyn, NY and in addition, for the Harlem YMCA for the last 5 years.

Teaching Experience: 15 years

Teaching Style
I use the three principles of learning in my teaching with emphasis on “Observation, what do I see?”. This can be interpretated as, what do I understand about what “I see” and apply either a remedy or replicate. Safety is at the top of my list with fun coming in as a close second. I teach content first, language and terms relevant to tennis, concrete information (the physicality of tennis, technique movement stroke production, etc.) second and then I move to the cerebral side of the game such as strategies, planning, confidence and competence.

Hobbies
I enjoy a wide range of music genres and I like a number of other sports such as, soccer, basketball, baseball, track and field, softball, football, and in addition I like various board games.
