About Mark
Hi, I’m Mark, a USPTA Professional 1 and PTR Professional member and director of tennis at Troon Country Club in Scottsdale, AZ. Only 8 percent of all U.S. certified teaching professionals carry the highest level of certifications. I was given the 2012 USTA Central Arizona Mike Rodriquez Ambassador of Tennis Award for Sportsmanship as well as the 2010 Stars Award, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the community, either through tennis or other endeavors, with the main focus on grassroots level of play. I also directed and hosted the fourth annual Special Olympics Tennis Fun Day at Troon in January 2014, with more than 170 athletes and volunteers participating in the event. I raised almost $8,000 and donated $4,000 for QuickStart equipment and racquets. I have also partnered with the USTA Southwest (Central Arizona) in promoting grassroots tennis through QuickStart tennis clinics and offered free beginner classes at Troon Country Club and Scottsdale elementary schools. I was the professional skills coach for the boys high school team at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Scottsdale from 2011-2013 and my team was the Division II state runner-up in 2013 and 2011. I currently serve on the USPTA Southwest Board as secretary through 2015. I also was appointed to the USTA Southwest Community Tennis Committee. In 2002 I was honored as the USPTA Georgia Pro of the Year. I was also inducted into the 2001-2002 edition of the “International Who’s Who of Professional Management.” I was a speaker at the USPTA Florida Convention in 2008 and annual German Coaches Conference in Munich and presented at the PTR symposium. I was recognized for my continuing education by the USPTA and PTR again in 2012. I have organized 20 plus USTA sanctioned tournaments and implemented Cardio Tennis and 10andunderTennis programs at past clubs. In his continued effort to grow the game, I worked with Pete Sampras, Stan Smith and Luke Jensen. For the past 14 years I organized the annual”Special Olympics Tennis Fun Day and raised money for charities such as Susan G. Komen. I also have a BS in Sports Management from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany and was director of tennis for 10 years in Germany and played professionally, before moving to the United States in 1998. I have been a member of Team Wilson since 1999.

Teaching Experience: 30 years

Teaching Style
My teaching style is based on having fun and being excited about playing tennis. As a professional, I enjoy being in contact with a broad range of people. I like to pass on my enthusiasm about tennis and sports to children, juniors and adults. In my 20 plus years of coaching and teaching, I developed my own unique style of teaching children and adults that is grounded in having fun first, followed by learning.

Hobbies
Aside from tennis, I enjoy skiing, hiking and, along with my wife Melinda, foster Golden Retrievers in need. I am working with the Arizona Golden Retriever connection, rescuing Goldens, training them and find them a new forever home.
