About Matyas
I come from the Czech Republic. I started playing tennis when I was 9 and played competitively when I turned 10. I have lot of understanding of the competitive version of the sport and the importance of technique, tactics, and mental toughness required by any successful athlete. After my high school graduation, I was offered a tennis scholarship at Eastern Illinois University (NCAA Division I). The four years taught me a lot about the sport, team work and myself. I was teaching tennis to all age categories and levels during summers in the Czech Republic. After moving to the United States. I helped my friend run junior clinics and teach lessons to players of various levels and age categories. Tennis is an amazing sport and great preparation for life. Sharing with my students what tennis taught me is one of the most rewarding experiences I can imagine.
Teaching Experience: 3 years
Teaching Style
Based on my teaching philosophy, the first couple of minutes with every new student is about me observing and trying to find out what limits the individual from improvement. Sometimes there is one flaw that is the root of many others (footwork, balance, grip): in that case I try to fix the root cause. I try not to push anything too far; when it does not go one way I try another — it is all about trying what works for the client. Tennis is fun first of all and it should not be destroyed by the ego of an instructor. I pay attention to progress and try to challenge each student to keep moving forward when a goal is reached. Whether it is just to have fun and exercise or work on certain things I want every student to take away something from every lesson.
Hobbies
Other than in tennis I found passion in surfing after moving to California. I kite board and snowboard in winter. I am open to pretty much any adventure. I like to see a good movie once in a while and love music and pizza.
