About Randy
I teach tennis because I absolutely love the game. I played at UNC-Chapel Hill and have been an assistant teaching pro at Wake Forest University for 30 years. I am now head boys and girls coach at Ledford High School in Thomasville, NC, and this will be my 20th year there, helping the teams stay in the top-10 in the state rankings since I’ve been there. I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm and winning attitude about sports and life in general with all age groups. My main objective is to not only make you a much better tennis player, but also to make sure you have a tremendous amount of fun doing it. This is one of the only lifelong sports and I want to make sure you play and stay in shape for many years to come.
Teaching Experience: 35 years
Teaching Style
I emphasize the importance of strategy, the ability to analyze an opponent and being court savvy. We always begin the lessons with our objectives of the day and what we both feel we need to work on to improve your game. This may involve drills, working on how to be a better and smarter athlete, and improving specialty areas(serves, volleys, overheads, drop shots, etc.)
Hobbies
I’ve been a professional rock musician for 45 years ( Hammond B-3 organ and vocals), NC Champion in Moto-cross, avid sport fisherman, and kayak and paddleboard instructor.
