About Richard
My passion for tennis started at a young age and continues today through my love of coaching and playing. It has always been my goal to provide all of my students, youth and adults alike, a positive and caring experience. I emphasize the importance of exercise and fun for students of all ages by introducing exciting and progressive tennis drills and games from the start. In 2011 I was ranked no. 31 in Nor-Cal Open. In 2005 I was ranked no. 8 in Nor-Cal 5.5 Division. From 1995-1997 I played for Dominican University (N.A.I.A. national team ranking no. 26). There I was the team captain, won the coach’s award and was the no. 1 player. From 1993-1994 I was NorCal high performance and from 1990-1992 I was Santa Rosa JC MIP as well as Camino Norte team champions.
Teaching Experience: 20 years
Teaching Style
My communication style is direct and combined with clearly defined lesson plans. Each one-hour lesson is broken down into four distinct categories based on the daily needs and or requirements of each student. First: 10-15 minute warm-up consultation. Second: 20-minute comprehensive fundamental development and review of one or two specific strokes. Third: 15-minute footwork and drills with targets. Fourth: 10-15 minutes of interactive games and/or rallying with cool-down period.
Hobbies
Running, biking, travel and competitive tennis.
