About Wilson
My name is Wilson and I was born in the Cape Verde Islands. At age 10, Mr. Almeida introduced the game of tennis to me. I fell in love with the game instantly and played every chance I could. I have participated in numerous tournaments and opens namely, the National Championship in 1998, the Raynham Open in 2002, the Bridgewater Open in 2003, the US Open Playoff in 2012 and the Attleboro Open in 2014. I have been teaching for the past 10 years as the head coach and co-founder of the Boston Inner City Youth Program and I started the Brockton Youth Tennis Program 2 years ago. I introduced tennis to my children at an early age and we continue, as a family, to improve our game and technique.
Teaching Experience: 10 years
Teaching Style
I always start the lesson with a warm up of stretching and running laps. Each player is paired up and taught the basic introduction to multiple strokes in the game of tennis along with fun activities to keep each student interested enough to want to come back to practice. The majority of information that will be received from each student will be given in the form of repetition on how to hold the racquet for each stroke and how to stand at each position before hitting a ball. I emphasize that winning is important but not the most important thing – treating each other with kindness and respect is the most important lesson to teach. I pride myself on being a patient, and caring coach. I offer encouraging words when needed and I never treat my players with disrespect. We work together, grow, and improve as a team.
