About Dimitar
Welcome! My name is Dimitar and I am the owner and tennis director of DIMITAR Tennis Academy in Santa Barbara, California.
My academy offers top quality tennis instruction for the young competitive players who are determined to excel to the next level. I have more than 25 years of domestic and international coaching and managerial experience in some of the world’s top tennis centers. I have coached three players ranked in the top 50 of the ATP and WTA and worked with many national and international top junior players. Among them:
• Grigor Dimitrov – #11 ATP (and rising), #1 ITF B18s, 2006 Orange Bowl B16s singles champion, 2008 Junior Wimbledon champion, and 2008 Junior U.S. Open singles champion
• Anna Tatishvili – #50 WTA singles, #78 WTA doubles, #10 ITF
• Sesil Karatancheva – Former #35 WTA and French Open quarterfinalist
• Ksenia Milevskaya – Top 200 WTA and 2007 #2 ITF

Before founding DIMITAR Tennis Academy (previously Oceanside School of Tennis), I was the Head Coach & Summer Camp Tennis Director of Weil Tennis Academy in Ojai, CA for 10 years, I coached at the Maleeva Tennis Academy, I was Tournament Director for the Bulgarian Tennis Federation and Management Director for the “Academic Tennis Club” (Sofia, Bulgaria). I have been ranked among the Top Four Juniors in Bulgaria and have been a Professional USPTR since 1993.
In 2013, I was awarded the prestigious HEAD/Penn Racquet Sports Advisory Pro of the Year.
I graduated from the prestigious Bulgarian National Sports Academy with a master’s degree in Physical Education and Sports Management.

Teaching Style
We aim to develop and enhance all aspects of successful tennis players, including technique, footwork, fitness, peak performance, nutrition and strategy. Each camp or clinic includes specially designed fitness sessions with a certified athletic trainer and certified strength and conditioning specialists.
