About Rebecca
My name is Becky, and I am very passionate about the game of tennis!
I played national tennis as a junior in Great Britain, and went on to accept a tennis scholarship at Loughborough University (UK).
I became an LTA Certified Tennis Professional in England in 2000, and graduated from Loughborough University, with a Bsc in P.E., Sports Science and Recreational Management in 2001.
I coached in England, as well as instructed fitness classes and personal training at various fitness centers.
In 2008, I moved to Houston. From 2009-2012 I taught for Galveston ISD, and coached the high school varsity, JV and freshmen tennis teams. I was awarded District 24-4A Tennis Coach of the Year in 2011.
From2012-2015 I coached at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland, Houston, and recently relocated to Lubbock.
I love to work with children, and have a lot of experience with the Quickstart program. I have coached all ages and abilities over the years, including tiny tots, adult USTA team players, and advanced youth and adult competitiors.
I represented Great Britain as a junior in national tournaments, and still love to compete to this day, as well as thoroughly enjoying competing in triathlons.
I am certified in many fitness areas, and will happily devise not only a tennis program for you, but also fitness programs tailored to your needs.
Teaching Experience: 7 years
Teaching Style
I am a firm believer of creating the athlete, before the player. All ages and abilities need to learn the fundamental movements and footwork needed for tennis, in order to be able to successfully execute their strokes. I work a lot on footwork and coordination, especially with young children (such as throwing and catching, etc.) and incorporate modern-day techniques for those who I feel will adapt well to this way of playing (open stance forehand for example).
I structure my lessons in a way that flows, beginning with a warm-up, and finishing with point play situations. With beginners, I will focus more on the basics, rather than match play situations, and gradually build on their ability to self rally, then progressing to rallying against myself or a partner. I always set goals, and once each goal is attained, we work towards the next. This keeps the individual motivated and with a continuous incentive.
Hobbies
I have competed in triathlons since 2010, and love to play tennis as well as coach, when I have the time. I also love to continue my coaching education, going to conferences and workshops whenever the opportunity arises.
