About Thomas
I have been playing tennis since 1952 ( of course the game has changed tremendously — as I like to say the only thing that remains the same is the name). I started teaching tennis to Boy Scouts about 50 years ago. Later I taught tennis in various youth programs in St.Louis , Detroit, Richmond and Baton Rouge. I am an official with the USTA (umpire and referee).
Teaching Experience: 40 years
Teaching Style
Only teach what the student wants to learn. However, emphasis is on the backhand (one and two-handed) and serve (flat, slice, topspin). There are optional off-court drills (homework). I encourage the use of transition balls (red, orange, green), which are sanctioned by the USTA and ITF. We use videos in all lessons to facilitate the teaching process.
Hobbies
Swimming (aquatics director with Boy Scouts), cycling , yard work (reel mower)and gardening. Currently studying anatomy and physiology — good background for sports science. Will be starting gamefication class soon.
