About Mauro
Hi, my name is Mauro and I’m from Mexico. I’m 44 years old and son to a former Mexico’s Davis Cup player and ATP professional tour pro. I started playing the national pro tour in Mexico at the age of 16. I came to UIW in 1993 with a scholarship and received the heart of Texas newcomer of the year award in 1993. I was also a part of the #1 ranked NAIA team in the nation with one of the best win/lose records ever for Incarnate Word (with coach John Newman). I have been teaching ever since I was 16, in Acapulco (Mexico), Wash DC, Virginia, Ca, and Texas. I like to work a lot with tennis students of all ages not only on their game but also on the psychological aspects of it, I have done voluntary speech work in Mexico on mental toughness and its application to everyday aspects, soon to do the same here in the USA.
Teaching Experience: 28 years
Teaching Style
I like to explain how the body and mind responds even in the initial phase of learning. I don’t base my teachings on lots of technical info, I like to do it more of a visual experience for the student at first. Though ground strokes are very important, I focus a lot on them as being the setup for the net game, therefore, I pay a lot of attention to the volley part of the game. I emphasize with a lot of visual examples, and back it up with a lot of how to mentally approach the game as well.
Hobbies
Music, movies, any ocean activities when hometown, soccer, read, psychology.
