About Motez
Hi, my name is Motez. I am a USPTR certified tennis professional with over 10 years teaching and coaching experience, am a former NAIA collegiate tennis player with a background in social and sport psychology. I was born and raised in Panama City, Florida, now residing in beautiful St. Petersburg, Florida. My passion is helping players reach their tennis goals; hence, I teach individual and group lessons, conduct group clinics and Cardio Tennis classes and I work with individuals on the psychology of peak mental performance. Additionally, I am a freelance tennis writer with a monthly tennis column and I have completed my first tennis book, The 7 Most Destructive Tennis Myths, and what to do about them. My journey in tennis has been one of self-teaching and self-discovery, in that just about all that I have learned in this wonderful game has been because of my thirst for knowledge, a hunger to improve my own game, and a passion to teach and help others. Having learned so much on my own due to persistence, I strive to instill in all of my students—young and old—to look within, to seek answers from within yourself on the court as much as possible versus having all the answers coming from the instructor. I look forward to working with you and helping you reach your tennis endeavors.
Teaching Experience: 12 years
Teaching Style
I teach basic and advanced stroke techniques; high-intensity tennis Boot camps; doubles tactics and strategies; and mental peak performance. I structure my lessons according to the needs of the student. I emphasize footwork, being fit, and moving and hitting the tennis ball in a natural, athletic, and efficient manner. My tennis philosophy is: Everyone learns differently (visually, auditorily and kinetically). Just as Western and Eastern medicines are now synthesizing, I use analogies from other sports and a variety of corrective techniques in my lessons; and, I stress that footwork is the foundation of every stroke. As one of my students said to me during a lesson, ‘You can’t get anywhere in tennis without good footwork.’ I further believe that tennis can and should be played naturally, athletically, and efficiently… free of distracted thinking—how to mechanically hit the ball versus where, how hard, and with how much spin with which to hit the ball. Moreover, I encourage my students to try different things that can make their game better. If you don’t like the changes, you can always go back to the way you originally played, but I promise I won’t make you any worse of a player.
Hobbies
I love cooking, trips to the beach, traveling to tennis tournaments, reggae music, and sharing as many special moments as I can with loved ones and special friends.
