About Nelson
I am a recent graduate of UNC who competed in four years of Division 1 tennis. I played my first two years of collegiate tennis at Ohio State where I won the Big Ten Singles Championship as a freshman in 2010. After transferring to UNC, I was the captain of the winningest team in program history. Professionally, I reached an ATP ranking of 1498 in the world and have recorded wins over Jack Sock (#75 on ATP tour) and Sanam Singh (#373 ATP tour). As a junior, I won three national doubles titles and was a top ten recruit. I have had the pleasure of training under renowned coaches such as Pat Harrison who is the father of Ryan Harrison (#125 on ATP tour), as well as, Tripp Phillips who reached the quarterfinals of doubles at the US Open in 2006.
Teaching Experience: 8 years
Teaching Style
My lessons are very high energy and seek to maximize every minute of practice time. As a coach, I want to give my students the same theories and strategies that the top professional and collegiate players use to be successful on the court. Examples of these strategies include specific serving locations that the pros use to maximize their chances of winning the point. I am a very knowledgeable doubles player and will also incorporate doubles specific drills and strategy into the lesson.
Hobbies
When I am not on the tennis court, I enjoy fishing, training for marathons, and spending time with my Boston Terrier.
