Who would have guessed that this girl walked away from tennis for a few years? In 2011, Timea Bacsinszky was fed up with her overbearing tennis coach father and quit the game. For two years, she worked as a waitress with plans to attend hotel management school. A call from the French Open in 2013 lured her back into the professional tour and she hasn’t looked back. 2015 has been her year with a semifinals appearance in the French Open and a secured spot in Wimbledon’s quarterfinals against Garbine Muguruza.
Bacsinszky completely changed the momentum of her fourth round match today against Monica Niculescu. It seemed like a done deal when Niculescu was up a set, but Bacsinszky pulled out a close second set before running away with the third.
Check out this incredible point by both players in the middle of the second set!
