To spread the game of tennis and engage people all over the world the International Tennis Federation (ITF) launched World Tennis Day last year in conjunction with StarGames, Inc. The BNP Paribas Showdown on March 3rd is the main event around World Tennis Day which features both former and current professional tennis players competing against each other. There are also performances from established tennis programs from around the world, such as the 10 and under. This world wide event encourages local tennis communities and clubs to participate in “World Tennis Day” by organizing and running own activities and events as well.
In 2013, World Tennis Day lined up two BNP Paribas Showdown events in New York and Hong Kong. Professionals such as Rafael Nadal, Agnieszka Radwanska, Ivan Lendl and John McEnroe showed of their tennis game in front of a full crowd. Besides those two main spots in the United States and China, more than 50 countries took part in “bringing the world together to play tennis” as Jerry Solomon, President and CEO of StarGames, Inc pointed out.
The upcoming World Tennis Day, on March 3rd, will hold its PNP Paribas Showdown events in New York, Hong Kong and London. By bringing one of their leading events to Europe, World Tennis Day is looking to reach out to an even wider demographic. Again, great former and current tennis players will be joining the PNB Paribas Open Showdowns, in turn connecting countries all around the world through tennis.
Hong Kong: Li Na, Sam Stosur, Tomas Berdych, Lleyton Hewitt
