The Tennis Gal’s Super Helpful Style Guide

Spring has finally arrived! Us tennis gals are super excited to finally be able to play outside again, but nearly just as pumped to stow our sweatpants for the season and break out the skirts. If you’re looking for a fresh tennis wardrobe, follow our style guide first so that you can win the fashion game this spring.

Outfits

Sure, you can buy the tennis outfit designed by a particular brand, but why not mix and match your look? Spring fashion is all about bright colors, florals and fun designs. So get playful with your match attire by pairing patterns with solids or even other patterns. Picking a solid to go with your patterned piece is easy — just choose any color represented within the pattern. If you want to be a bit bolder in your outfit combinations, mix a multicolored pattern with a monochromatic pattern or a neutral pattern. A monochromatic pattern is simply one color plus white and a neutral pattern is composed of neutral colors like gray or brown. One of the best ways to mix and match is by using TennisWarehouse.com, where you can browse different brands, styles and colors that suit your needs.

Eyewear

When the sun’s beaming down on center court, you need the perfect pair of specs to protect your eyes while also looking like a pro. For the most flattering look, you’ll want to select a pair of sunnies based on your face shape. If you have an oval-shaped face, lucky you — you can pretty much rock any design. Have fun with your sunglasses and choose unique frames, like cat eye or coke bottle. If you have a round face you’ll want to counteract the softness of your features with sharp angles. Choose either square or rectangle frames to look your best. Women who have heart-shaped faces have wider foreheads and narrow chins. Balance the symmetry of your face by wearing aviators or rimless glasses. Those with square faces should wear curvier, rounder eyeglasses to complement their strong jawlines. The sunglasses below can all be found at Overstock.com, where you can narrow your search results by selecting face shape or design.

Sports Bras

When you’re running around on the court, you want to have the most comfortable and supportive undergarments possible. Different bust sizes require different bra styles that give you the right amount of support. For smaller busts, Lululemon makes some pretty, camisole bras that provide just enough reinforcement. Women who wear a B or C cup need a bit more support, and Athleta has some excellent underwire designs that are also easy to move in. For women who about a C or D cup, Patagonia’s Switchback bra is designed specifically for your size; it includes an adjustable strap around the ribcage that provides extra support and motion control. Those with larger busts should explore Under Armour’s catalog of high-impact sports bras. These are designed with wide straps and bands to eliminate the irritating and sometimes painful feeling of having your bra dig into your skin.

Shoes

A girl loves her pumps and slingbacks, but on the tennis court, you need shoes that are a bit more sturdy. There are a seemingly infinite number of tennis shoes to choose from, so how do you pick the right ones? Zappos.com is a great place to look because like Overstock, you can sort shoes by insoles, features and even weight. If you want light, breathable shoes, the adidas Barricades are made with mesh lining and moisture wicking insoles. If you need some extra padding when you’re pounding the hard courts, ASICS gel-solution slams are designed to reduce impact. And those who have the need for speed should check out Nike’s lightweight DF Ballistec Advantage. Just note that Nike clothing is notorious for running small!
