About Joey
I was introduced to tennis by my mother when I was around 12 years old. I stuck with it all through high school, mostly self-taught. I qualified for regionals and state alternate my junior and senior year. I went on to play tennis at Sam Houston State University for three years, where I received my degree in psychology. After college, I relocated to the Fort Worth area. I have found this area to be quite comfortable to me, and I plan on staying as long as possible. I currently hold a Professional 1, (or elite professional) certification from the USPTA. I still play competitively on the weekends to relieve stress, but my greatest joy is seeing my tennis students flourish in their tournaments, both juniors and adults.
Teaching Experience: 6 years
Teaching Style
I am experienced in cardio tennis, group lessons, private lessons and match play scenarios. I typically like to structure my lessons to simulate the goals of the student. Conditioning is very important to me, (especially with the hot Texas sun in the summer), as well as situation-based drills. The more realistic the lesson can be, the better the results will be. I am greatly opposed to instructors that simply feed balls, with little or no feedback. This doesn’t benefit the student as much as a hands-on approach. I believe that mental confidence and psychology does just as much good on the tennis court, as good strokes do.
