Venus Williams is Making 2015 Her Comeback Year

Serena Williams is currently getting all of the media attention right now, and justifiably so. At 34 years old, she is the oldest player to ever hold the world no. 1 spot. The only person that can stand in her way to making even more history is herself apparently.

But we can’t forget about her sister Venus Williams. Venus has also had a stellar career with 7 major singles titles, 13 major doubles titles, 2 major mixed doubles titles, and a few Olympic golds to her name, but she isn’t even close to hanging up her tennis racket. Though diagnosed with Sjögren’s Syndrome in 2011, something that would maky any regular person throw in the towel, she is not letting the autoimmune disease hold her back. She is the oldest player in the Top 100 and appears to only be climbing the ranks.

Venus Williams is making 2015 her comeback year. Don’t believe me? Check out these stats:

1.

She has made two major quarterfinal appearances at the Australian Open and the US Open. This is something she hasn’t done since 2010.

2.

Just last week, she won the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open, a Premier 5 tournament. This yet another thing she hasn’t done since 2010. You’re right Serena, #venusrises.

Congrats to @venuswilliams for winning Wuhan! So happy you did it! #williamsistersrule #williamssisterscontinue #venusrises

3.

She won her 700th singles match against Julia Georges at the Wuhan Open, a feat only 8 other players in history have done.

4.

Her Wuhan Open title win helped her jump 10 spots in the rankings, from no. 24 to no. 14.

5.

She is close to breaking back into the Top 10. She is only 83 points behind world no. 10 Carla Suárez Navarro.
