#UpsetAlert: Who Are These Troublemakers?

#UpsetAlert has been a trending hashtag on Twitter the past couple of days, starting with American teenĀ CiCi Bellis‘ win over no. 12 seed Dominika Cibulkova and continuing with two major upsets in the women’s tournament today.

Aga Radwanska, the no. 4 seed, fell to Peng Shuai in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Never heard of Peng? The world no. 39 who plays with a distinct style (two-hands on both sides), is actually a doubles specialist who earlier this year won the French Open in doubles and last year captured the doubles title at Wimbledon. She’ll play the no. 28 seed Roberta Vinci in the next round. Not sure about you, but we at MyTennisLessons are definitely hoping for another Peng victory.Check out her awesome doubles game with partner Hsieh Su-Wei here:

American fans were disappointed today when no. 21 seed Sloane Stephens crashed out in the second round, losing to Sweden’s Johanna Larsson. Larsson, ranked no. 96 on the WTA tour, has never made it past round one of the U.S. Open and her best grand slam result was making it to the third round of the French Open this year. Hopefully Larsson can ride the momentum from this win to carry her to her farthestĀ U.S. Open run ever (as long as she doesn’t beat any more Americans).
